school building
In January 2007 ISH achieved an ambition that has taken several years of planning, in moving to a brand new school building, bringing together our primary and secondary sections for the first time ever.
The idea of a new school was first tabled 6 or 7 years ago by the then Principal Mr. Jaap Mos. There followed several years of planning and negotiations. Land was earmarked by the Gemeente (district council) in the developing south west of the city by the beach resort of Kijkduin, funding was promised by the Gemeente and Shell, and additional funding underwritten by the parent Rijnlands organisation. Local architects, Atelier Pro, were appointed and a design approved.
The ground breaking took place at the very start of 2005, and in the time since then the school has slowly appeared.
The maximum capacity will be for 1350 students, including housing a self contained nursery, run by Triodus, thereby providing continuous education from 0-18.
The facilities include two full sized Sports Halls, and 350 seat theatre, big indoor circulation and display areas, and impressive surroundings. The school is also linking with local sports clubs, including football, hockey, bowling and golf, to enhance its own provision.
The building design is also environmentally friendly, with low energy designs, and utilising recyclable materials. Truly a building of the 21st century.
