At the ISH we care about our environment . Our projects on Green Space, Green recycling, Green energy, Green transport, Green Health and Green Awareness have meant we are an Eco-School awarded Green Flag Silver status. View the student-run website: www.ishweb.nl/green for all of the latest Green information.
The green area behind the secondary staff car park (opposite the gyms) has been designated Green Space in a joint initiative by the Global Issues Network student group at secondary with a small but dedicated band of secondary and primary staff. The creation of GreenSpace as an on-site learning environment on biodiversity is in cooperation with three green landscape architects/nature guides. The plot is currently worked by a group of Primary and Secondary students, who are creating an inventory of all plant-, tree- and wildlife (including bee-keeping) on site.
From September 2009 onwards Green Space is continuously developed to offer scope for educational and extra-curricular activities on our ISH campus. A bird observatory, a botanical garden, a glass house project, a plot with fruit trees, a water project are among the plans being considered. We would very much welcome parental involvement in this whole-school initiative. If you would like to join us to give your green fingers some exercise and/or help in the planning please contact R.A. van Vliet. the Community School Director via r.vanvliet@ishthehague.nl
United Nations’ Millennium Goal number 7 is our guiding focus in this. Where better to take steps, however small, towards achieving this goal than at home and at school? As part of our drive towards giving the notion of Sustainability its proper place in our Curriculum, ISH has launched a Green campaign which has so far resulted in improved waste-recycling at school.
A reduction in paper use and energy consumption is the main aim in the school building. Alternative sources of fuelling the building are being investigated.
The ISH campus is closed to traffic during school hours. Having a car-free campus will provide space for outdoor activities, and raise awareness on the need for finding cleaner and more sustainable modes of transport. Please be aware the only motorized traffic on site is for emergencies, parents/students with medical conditions that must give them close access to the school building, and professional deliveries.
The healthy food on offer in the canteen is also locally sourced.
