Working in Secondary

As an employer, we offer excellent professional development opportunities, one of which to note is that the International School of The Hague is a study centre for the University  of Bath offering a Masters in Education. The International School of The Hague is an IB World School, accredited by the Council of International Schools and the International Primary Curriculum. The International School of The Hague is a member of the Rijnlands Foundation, a prestigious group of schools in The Netherlands and abroad which form a Dutch non-profit making organization, subsidised by the Dutch Ministry of Education and supported by the Municipality of The Hague, as well as by local business interests.  The school is subject to Dutch social and working conditions, which are among the best in the world, the national pension scheme applied to the school is extremely beneficial to the international traveller. The school itself is a pleasant working environment, situated in the dunes of Kijkduin, one of The Hague’s quieter beach resorts. The Hague is a cosmopolitan city with a large expat population and as such offers excellent housing, health and transport facilities.

As a successful applicant, you will be welcomed by a collegial, sociable and thoroughly international team. Applicants must be eligible to work within the European Union and suitably qualified. In addition, we can provide free education for up to two dependents for Teachers hired from abroad. Initial employment is for one year, followed by a permanent contract subject to satisfactory appraisal and completion of paperwork.

Our requirement is for experienced teachers, with academic and teaching qualifications, and with excellent verbal and written English. We have Teachers from all over the world, but because of difficulty in obtaining work permits, preference is given to applicants with European residency status in some form.

Requirements for teaching positions:

  • university degree and teaching qualification
  • successful teaching experience
  • knowledge of international curricula
  • English to native or near native level

International teaching experience and experience of living outside the Netherlands is normally a prerequisite for all Dutch applicants. Please note that applicants for EAL teaching positions also have to be qualified classroom teachers, not just EAL / TESOL qualifications. Supply / cover teachers must also meet the above criteria.  We often need supply / cover Teachers, and also like to keep a note of Teachers who are living locally, so if you are resident within easy travelling distance of The Hague or will be moving here shortly, please send us an application. Letters of application with CV and contact details of two referees can be forwarded via our recruitment application form.
Please also note that applications to ISH are also shared with other schools in our organisation, Rijnlands Lyceum.
