Primary Parent Teacher Association, PTA

About the PTA:

Some of you may be unfamiliar with what the Parent Teacher Association — generally referred to as the PTA — is or does. Let’s start with the fact that every parent or guardian of a primary student attending the ISH is automatically a member. As are all the primary teachers. Parents and teachers: we all make up the PTA.

And what does the PTA do? First, and foremost, the PTA is there to benefit the school community. Through the PTA, we can have our voices heard, make contributions to the school and organize various activities for the children and families to build our community or just to have fun.

The PTA holds open meetings throughout the year that every parent is invited to attend to discuss school related issues and plan the different events we organize. These meetings are also attended by school representatives, giving us the opportunity to work together and have clear communication.

Get Involved

One of the greatest things about the ISH is our diversity - and that is reflected in our PTA. Maybe this is the first time you have had a PTA in your school, or you’ve never been involved before. Perhaps you have lots of previous experience. Whatever your position, your participation is valued.

For most of us, English isn’t our first language, so please don’t let that stop you. Our goal is to get as many voices involved as possible, with as many accents. Below you will find a list of the dates of the Open Meetings. We look forward to seeing you there.

 Our next Open Meeting:

Wednesday 3rd February 8.30 to 10.30

And those planned later in the year:

Wednesday 31st March, 8.30 to 10.30

Wednesday 26th May 19:00 to 21:00

Wednesday 23rd June 8.30 to 10.30 (Annual General Meeting)

Activities

Throughout the year the PTA organizes activities for our children and the school community.  We need your help to make these events happen.  While some activities don’t take much organization, some, like the Spring Fair, need the support of many. If you can contribute your time, talent or ideas to help make these events a success, we would greatly appreciate it. Please feel free to contact any of the PTA board members listed below for more information.

Our next event:

Mad Hair Day — Take 2 - Friday 18th December

In case you or your kids forgot the last time, we are planning another Mad Hair Day to raise funds for the Waterberg Welfare Society.www.waterbergwelfaresociety.org.za

We are asking that students bring in a 1-euro contribution and. of course, Mad Hairstyles, to provide a little help to those in need.

Other upcoming events:

More detailed information will be made available, as we get closer to the event.

Love to Read Fortnight – 29th January to 12th February

A two-week event which not only encourages your child to read but also helps to buy books for the primary library.

Staff Appreciation Lunch – February TBA

The parents will provide lunch for all of the Primary Teachers and other Staff.

Night at the Museum – February/March TBA

A special invitation from the Gemeente Museum to spend an evening in the museum with organized activities for the whole school.

Quiz Night - TBA

A fun event for adults only – are you the Brain of The School? Is your General Knowledge extensive? Can you and your friends beat off the competition?

 Spring Fair - 24th April

As many of you experienced last June, the Summer Fayre was an amazing event. Thanks to a lot of effort from the many parents and teachers involved, everyone had a fantastic time and we were able to raise funds towards new playground equipment.   This year it would be great to have even more people helping.  No matter how big or small, your contribution will make this year’s Spring Fair equally successful.

Car Boot Sale - 5th June

Do you have a garage full of unused things? This is a chance to sell those unwanted items. Your junk may be somebody else’s treasure!
