student council

The Student Council are a group of students elected by all of the ISH Secondary students.
The Student Council e-mail is, ish.studentcouncil@ishthehague.nl

Claire Belilos,  a former chair of the Student Council, describes the Student Council Body:

" The Student Council are basically the students chosen to represent the entire student body. They are students that can be approached not only by other students, but also by teachers and management as well. If a student is being bullied, having problems with a teacher or has ideas for a project or activity, they can always approach a Student Council member. I personally believe that if you have good Student Council members, the student body itself starts to feel a lot closer - a lot more like a community.

The Student Council is of course also needed to organize things such as dances or fundraisers. Personally I hope that this year the Student Council will be able to do much more than these basic things. I hope we can not only organize our own projects, but encourage and help other students to do the same. I also hope for the Student Council to be the one that informs the student body about the events being planned or happening around school. "

Chair - Meredith Sambu

There are many suggestions and proposals on issues to be brought up for debate in the Council, as well as concrete plans that the Student Council will together achieve throughout the year. Some ideas include:

~ a dance competition, for eg. ISH or International School's best dance crew.
~ launching The ISH News Weekly.

~ broadcasting it via a School TV Presentor on our school video system.
~ decorating the building with pictures and paintings from art classes.

~ bringing back the couches to the common rooms.
~ having better themed parties where people will enjoy themselves and have a chance to interact not only with their year-mates but also with students of other years.

Meredith: " The new Student Council stands for transparency and unity. This is because, as the school has unitedly formed the new Student Council, they are now more aware of what each person is capable of and what to expect in the coming year.I am a person driven by goals and ambitions. In my speech I said that I would try everything within my ability to make it work. However, the Student Council will have to cross every bridge as we come to it. And so, if the plans set forward at the beginning of the year do not work, there will definitely be a good reason for it! "

Is there any funny or special fact we should definitely know about you?

" Well... at this very moment I cannot think of anything very special. Only that I am a very fast runner and that my mind runs just as fast, if not faster!"

Deputy Chair and MR representative - Imene

Open to suggestions from all years 7 through to 13, Imene's aim, working with a team of people with good values, is to make sure this year's school council will be as organized and efficient as possible: a force for change.

Imene: " With a team as lovely and committed as this we will certainly be the force for change.I will listen to people and take into consideration everything that is suggested as well as caring. I really do care about our school community and I hope that I’ll be able to put a smile on many peoples’ faces this year."

Treasurer - Takayuki Hazu
Deputy Treasurer - Anna Lo Jacomo

Cultural Coordinator - Frederieke Grevers

Creating more school spirit is definitely on the agenda for Fredi, having lived herself in many different countries already. Her background and passion for diversity profile her as the right candidate to celebrate ISH's value with cultural diversity.

Fredi: " What attracted me mostly was the fact that its a position you can be very creative with. My background and passion for diversity made me think I could take on a job like this."

Activities Coordinator - Loukie
Deputy Activities Coordinator - Denise
Class representative - Andre
Class representative - Vincent
Technology Coordinator - Xander Maes

Deputy Technology Coordinator  (Co-Tec) - Martin Klima

"I joined the student council in order to support them and project my ideas among the students of ISH. Technology is part of our everyday life. I KNOW that technology is THE future. I specialize in computing and a lot of hardware/software work. I have a lot of experience with the 3 massive screens in the plaza, setting up networks and operating sound system. My job will be divided. Since technology is expanding, Me and Xander will be constantly switching with different types of duties and exchanging new ideas. After all, like combining technology, two minds are stronger than one."
