Shell Eco Marathon

Silverback Engineering compete in the Shell Eco-marathon. This unique global programme allows 500 teams of students to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and maths to design and build ultra-energy-efficient cars, and then take them out on the track in competition.

ISH competes against university teams from all around the world who joined to work collaboratively to play their part in testing energy efficiency, critical thinking and innovative ideas. Silverback Engineering is designing their vehicle in the prototype gasoline class.

Two Competition Types

Shell Eco-marathon Mileage Challenge

Teams compete with student-built vehicles to see who can complete a valid track route using the least amount of energy.

There are two vehicle classes:

  • Prototype
    • hydrogen
    • solar panel
    • gasoline
    • diesel
    • ethanol
    • GTL
    • CNG
    • Battery electricity
  • UrbanConcept

Each vehicle class has designated time slots to compete on the track.

Shell Eco-marathon Drivers’ World Championship

The most energy-efficient UrbanConcept vehicles return to the track for a race. This time, each vehicle is given an allotted amount of energy and must be the first car to cross the finish line, without running out of energy!
