How do I apply for my children to ISH?

Step 2 - Which Documents You Will Need?

To start the admissions process please complete an application form.

You will need:

A recent passport-sized picture of the child
A copy of the child's passport
Copies of the most recent school reports for the child in English. (where applicable considering the age of the child)

During the process you will also be asked to fill out various forms depending on what your year you are applying for:

Entry Profile Form (to be completed by parents/ guardians of Early Year and Pre-Early Years only)
Home Language Information Form (Primary School)
Language Choice Form (Secondary Year 7 to 9)
Subject Choice Form (Secondary Year 10 to Year 13)

*NB. To complete the application process you'll need to pay the application fee of €325.00 per child. This fee is non-refundable. You will also need to complete all the items in your checklist before your application will be processed.

Step 3 - What happens after you have completed the application form?

Once you have completed all checklist items, your application will be reviewed by our Admissions Officers and if nothing more is required your application will be waitlisted

For Primary school admissions we may contact you to make an appointment for a short discussion about your child's needs and a tour of the school.
For Secondary school all applicants will undergo Placement Tests before a place can be confirmed for them in the school.
You will be able to track your application status at all times through your Admissions Portal.

If accepted you will receive a confirmation letter and our School Fee Agreement. Upon signature you will receive a link to our start of school essentials.

The application will not be processed by our Admissions Officers until all checklist items have been completed. This fee is non-refundable and it does not guarantee a place at ISH, nor does it form part of the school fees. This is a one off payment to cover the costs of the administration.

Waitlisted

All checklist items have been completed and checked by our Admissions Officers.

You will receive an acknowledgement of your application via the Open Apply admissions portal. The application will be added to our waiting list in order of receipt according to our priorities (see Admissions Policy).

During the waitlisted period for Primary:

Applications will be reviewed by our Assistant Principals
If required the Admissions Officers will contact your child’s school for additional information
Admissions may contact you to make an appointment for a short discussion about your child's needs and a tour of the school
Based on any information provided on the application form or provided by your child’s current/previous school, our Learning Support Department may review the application

During the waitlisted period for Secondary:

All Secondary School applicants will sit placement tests. We will contact the current school in due course for the placement tests. If the applicant is in The Hague, please contact the Admissions Office to set up an appointment to sit the placement tests at our school
All placement tests will be marked by our academic staff and subject availability will be reviewed
Based on any information provided on the application form or provided by your child’s current/previous school our Learning Support Department may review the application
All applications will be reviewed by our Year Group Leaders

When a place becomes available the Admissions Office will contact you. You will receive a confirmation letter with our School Fee Agreement.

Placement in Primary

We offer a Pre-Early Years class for children reaching the age of four (4) after 1 October of any school year, once they have had their birthday. Children in this class will then move into Early Years in the following school year.

Admission to the International School of The Hague is contingent upon our school programme being suitable to meet the applicant's needs. Knowledge of English as an academic language is not a requirement for admission. Primary School policy is to place children in age grouped classes, when possible.

Children entering Early Years must have reached their fourth (4th) birthday before 1 October of that school year. Class level assignment will be determined through past school records and personal interviews. Some programmes are available for children with learning disabilities.

Placement in Secondary

We have placement tests for all students applying for a place in Year 7 and above. These are internal tests designed to ensure that students are placed in classes suitable to their knowledge and ability, and also, in the case of Years 12 and 13, that they are capable of completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) or International Baccalaureate Careers Related Programme (IB CP) at the level chosen.

For Years 7 – 11 the placement tests are for English and Mathematics, as well as language tests in French, German, or Spanish for basic to native proficiency levels.

For Year 12, the first IB year, placement tests include languages, Mathematics and Science.

Students who are not yet in the Netherlands can usually sit the placement tests in their current school, who will administer the test and forward them to us by arrangement.

Our goal at every level is to make applicants as comfortable as possible, so that they will do their best work.
