Dear Athletes, Coaches and Spectators,
On behalf of the International School of The Hague, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the ISST Division 1 Boys Soccer Championships 2018 and the city of The Hague. We are delighted to welcome all teams to the competition and look forward to three action-packed days of soccer.
As the soccer tournament progresses, I expect to witness many exciting and close fought matches played within the true spirit of the game. Only one team can end up as champions, but every individual athlete should remember “instead of trying to be the best on the team, be the best for the team. A successful team beats with one heart.” (unite football).
The hosting of any tournament is a community effort and I would like to express my appreciation to all those who have contributed to making this event a success. I would particularly like to thank our host families who have so generously opened their homes to you this week. Without them, tournaments of this nature would not be possible.
As the ISST organisation celebrates its 50th Anniversary, it is important to recognise how fortunate we are to be part of such a well-established, organised and prolific program for students to experience such sporting opportunities and success. With that in mind, I draw your attention to the ISST Statement of Sportsmanship on the next page to remind ourselves about why we are all here.
Athletes - please take the time to enjoy this special experience with your teammates and coaches. For some, this is your last ISST and for others, it is your first. Enjoy every moment!
I hope at the end of the tournament you are all able to leave having had a positive experience filled with many happy memories of your time here at ISH and The Hague.
Good luck to all!
