Young Mathematicians Compete in Vienna
Posted 22/03/2019 15:04

Seven of our Year 12 students traveled to Vienna last weekend to compete in the Senior ISMTF Competition. After a long trip down to Vienna, they decided to unwind and visit the Technisches Museum Wien, which is located in the outskirts of Vienna. They had a look at the gorgeous interactive displays and spent the rest of the evening exploring the wonders that Vienna had to offer.

On Saturday, they participated in the individual competition, followed by a team competition. On Sunday, the students part in "The Sunday Chase". Essentially, the teams were chosen at random from the different schools (so our students had to work with other students that they had not met before). The teams of 5 went from one room to another, solving problems and the students were allowed to use calculators to try and finish the "chase" as fast as possible with as many correct answers.

The Sunday Chase inspired our students to find solutions to the enigmatic mathematical problems they encountered over the weekend, and they spent the rest of their journey back to The Hague discussing them. Many thanks to Mr Boros who coached the team in preparation for the competition.
