ISH student Dini Vermaat elected Wethouder Buitenspelen at the Madurodam B & W college! Congratulations!
Since it's opening in 1952, Madurodam has a College of B & W (formerly called Youth City Council).
Princess Beatrix was mayor of Madurodam for 28 years (1952 to 1980). When she was crowned, she became the Patroness of Madurodam. This year,
for the first time since 1952, the mayor of Madurodam was selected by employees of Madurodam. The Councilors have a portfolio that is connected to one of the three themes of the charity policy:  fun learning, better outdoor games and party/fun for everyone.
The Board consists of nine students from nine high schools in and around The Hague. Each member will be in the College for the period of 1 year.
Annually Madurodam donates between 6 hundred thousand and one million euros to children's charities. In the last 4 years Madurodam has donated more that 1.1 million to children's charities with the Haaglanden region. The Council has a budget with which they may donate to charities for children who are active in the themes: fun learning, better outdoor play and parties for everyone. The Council thus gives other children a helping hand and at the same time learn what social entrepreneurship entails.

The main task of the College of B & W is to co-decide on the charity policy for Madurodam. For many people it is unknown that Madurodam donates its proceeds to children's charities.
