" The happiness of the bee and the dolphin is to exist. For man it is to know that and to wonder at it." - Jacques-Yves Cousteau

On Friday 21st June, Ms Laura Cohen's sister, Freya, who is an ecologist and bee keeper, came to visit Year One. She began by asking the children ''What do you think about when you think about bees?" and they were able to come up with many ideas, including honey, flowers, nectar and Summer. The children also posed some very thoughtful questions such as; 'Why do bees have ginormous eyes?' (Chris).

Freya talked to the year group about why bees are important for our planet and helped the children to consider pollination, through a role-play scenario. We also found out that there are 20,000 different sorts of bees in the world and in the Netherlands there are 250 different kinds!

It was a very informative and enjoyable visit and helped the children to gain greater knowledge and understanding to support their IPC learning for this unit, as well as inspiring them to continue to explore.
