The ISH French students were very fortunate to have a contemporary writer coming to the school on the 5th march 2020 with the support of Alliance Française of the Hague. Émile Bravo shared his passion for drawing and inspired many of us through his comics and life philosophy. He also drew Spirou for the ISH students with the ISH logo, before coming to do his presentation. This was a unique experience for all of us, especially because many students took their comics home with personalized drawings and messages from the author. Our librarians also supported this event with an exhibition of his books in the library. I am grateful that this event was a “virus-free” event and that our visitors left us with wonderful memories and inspiration for the future generation. Here are some photos and feedback from students:
“Our favourite part was watching Emile Bravo drawing for us on the board. It was fascinating to see the way a famous comic writer developed his style and process.“

The presentation by Emile Bravo was an event we were all looking forward to for weeks. When it finally came, it exceeded our expectations. Prior to the event, we looked at some of his most famous comics, and prepared some questions to ask to Emile Bravo. He went through answering them all, and we learnt so much about his life, his job, and his passion for art. The fact that he has been doing what he loves, drawing, as his job for years was so inspiring. At one point, he decided to show us how he draws his comics. He did so with effortlessness, and seeing these characters come to life starting from a simple drawing was amazing. Emile Bravo was such a funny and humble person, and we all are so grateful to have been able to meet him and learn about his life.
