The International School of The Hague is a highly successful, innovative and energetic semi-public school located on the edge of the city of The Hague, near Kijkduin.

The entire school currently has more than 2000 students from around 100 nationalities with teachers from around the world. The school is divided into Primary and Secondary with a Principal for each section. 

The Primary School was established in 2003 and became the first school in the world to be accredited at “Mastering” level by the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The Primary School was also the first international school in The Netherlands to receive the Excellente School status from the Dutch Inspection of Education. We now have more than 640 pupils on roll in Primary. 

We have teaching assistants in every year group from Early Years to Year 6, and now we have an exciting new opportunity for two Teaching Assistants vacancies in the Learning Support team.

1 FTE Learning Support TA (Teaching Assistant)

1 FTE Learning Support TA (Teaching Assistant) to work within the Learning Support Department. This is a full time role, Monday to Friday from 8:00am - 16:30

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to make a difference to the learning of students with individual needs by creating a supportive learning environment in which  they can thrive.

The successful candidate will have a contract for one year, possibly leading to a permanent position. This position is open to internal and external applicants. We are aiming for a start date of 17 February 2020 or earlier.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Permitted to work in the European Union
  • Recognised training/diplomas in areas of learning difficulties
  • Experience of working with Primary aged children
  • Experience of working with students with a range of learning difficulties
  • High level of spoken and written English
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Able to speak and write more than one language

We can offer you a temporary appointment for one year, with the prospect of this becoming a permanent one, based on the Dutch collective labour agreement (CAO PO), salary scale 4 (with an allowance to Scale 7). Scaling depends on the relevant background and experience.

Administrative Assistant for Co-Curricular Activities and Service Learning (1.0 FTE)

We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and proactive individual to be responsible for the performance of administrative support activities for Co-Curricular activities and Service Learning. The successful candidate will work closely with the CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service), SA (Service as Action) and SL (Service Learning) Coordinators and report to the Vice Principal Experiential. 

The Role

The Administrative Assistant will support and promote the quality, growth and facilitation of CAS, SA, SL, and Co-Curricular Activities for students in the school.

Key responsibilities include:

• Works in a team that administers the planning, running and review of Co-Curricular related events, including CAS Projects, Personal Project Exhibition, the Co-Curricular Fair, Green Day, GIN Conference and International Award Presentation Evenings.

• Provides administrative support to the SA, SL and CAS Coordinators in daily activities.

• Administers the database of Co-Curricular Activities, promotes and tracks student attendance and helps to enhance provision.

• Monitors, reviews and tracks activity status of students in Service Learning activities under the guidance of the SA, SL and CAS Coordinators.

• Maintains the Co-Curricular Activities Events Calendar and Service Learning Activity pages on the website

• Provides administration support to students with leading their own clubs and special projects

• Fosters and grows new relationships with outside volunteer organisations, to enhance the variety and quality of service learning activities on offer to our students.

• Works closely with the Co-Curricular Arts Director, GIN (Global Initiatives Network) Coordinator, International Award Coordinator and Events Coordinator.

• Liaises with the Communications team to ensure the high profile of Co-Curricular activities and Service Learning in our community

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and experience:

1. Essential

• Background in admin and database support

• Experience in event coordination

• Willing to work outside normal school operating hours

• EU citizenship or valid working permit 

• Fluent in written and spoken English

2. Preferred

• Conversational Dutch is an advantage

• Has a range of contacts and experiences in the local volunteering community

• Experience in more than one field of CAS activity e.g. sports, charity or artistic endeavours

Our Offer

We offer a unique opportunity at an exciting time in the development of this highly-regarded international school. The appointment will initially be for one year, with a view to a permanent contract if all the conditions are met. The position is based on the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement (CAO VO) for Secondary Education, scale 5 (Administrative Assistant - support staff). Based on a 1.0 FTE contract, the salary will be between €1811 - €2588 pcm (gross) - the step in this scale depends on relevant background and experience.

Other benefits include the 8% holiday allowance, a year-end bonus of 7,4% an extra year-end bonus for educational support staff, a contribution towards travel expenses and the ABP pension scheme.

In addition staff are given a number of options for tax benefits regarding trade union dues, the costs of sports (fitness) membership fees, the purchase of a bicycle (for commuting purposes) and a travel allowance (cafeteria scheme). In addition, Rijnlands staff receive discounts on various insurance policies.

Start Date

The appointed person will start ideally on 01 April 2020, or sooner if possible.
