Miro Herak (Percussion)
At the age of six he started to attend cello lessons at the Elementary School of Music in Bratislava. In 1990 he began to study orchestral percussions and pedagogy at the Conservatory in Zilina, Slovakia. After graduating Miro continued his studies at the Conservatory in Bratislava.
During his studies he became more intrested in jazz and improvised music. In 1997 he co-founded, with Slovak piano player Michal Vanoucek the band AsGuests. During his study in He was a member of the percussion section of the Slovak Radio Orchestra, where he played until 2000.
A three years scholarship winner form the Schuurman van Ouderen foundation, he continued his studies in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, majoring in jazz vibraphone, where he obtained his BA and MA degrees. with distinction.
As a performer, Miro has toured all over Europe, played at jazz festivals in The Netherlands, Belgium, Slovakia, Czech republic, Spain, France, Italy, several times performed at The North Sea Jazz Festival and in Carnegie Hall in New York.
With the band ‘AsGuests’ he won the ‘Pim Jacobs Muziek Prijs 2004′ and ‘The Dutch Jazz Competition 2004′. The band won a tour around all major venues in The Netherlands and recorded the debut CD ‘Enter As Guests’, released in 2005.
The same year was Miro selected to be a member of the European Colours Jazz Orchestra with residence in Italy.
Besides being active in AsGuests he is also (since 2009) a director and vibraphone player of The Hague Ehospheric Orchestra and director of UM music foundation.
