Bringing the PYP to Life at ISH Primary
Sarah Goodhand - Assistant Principal Curriculum

Earlier this week, our entire Primary staff took part in an intensive two-day Primary Years Programme (PYP) workshop; ‘Building Your IB Programme.’

As part of the authorization process for becoming an IB World School, the IB requires all schools to ensure that teachers and administrators take part in this IB-recognised professional development.

We were lucky to have 4 amazing workshop trainers, who collaborated during the break to ensure the sessions were tailored to the needs of our staff.

Over the course of the two days, we collaborated in teams, and as a whole school to explore the core values of the International Baccalaureate framework. Sessions explored;

  • concept driven, inquiry based learning
  • student agency and action
  • the Learner Profile attributes (ISH Community Profile)
  • the collaborative planning process
  • assessment and reflection
  • the development of Approaches to Learning (ATLs)
  • the role of language
  • learning environments

Our team left the sessions energized and eager to bring these fresh insights and ideas directly to your children. Our trainers left saying that our staff were engaged, motivated, willing to share and take risks, and were a pleasure to work with.

We are excited about the journey ahead as we continue to build a rich, engaging, and dynamic learning environment for every student.
