GLOBE in Action: ISH Hosts Lithuanian School Leaders for Sustainability Exchange
Niels Brouwers

Last Wednesday (15 April) our school was visited by a delegation of 21 Lithuanian school heads and representatives from municipalities from across Lithuania. This visit was initiated by the Lithuanian non-formal education agency. During my sabbatical in 2022-23, I visited this organisation in my pursuit to learn about the implementation of the GLOBE programme in different schools across Europe.

The delegation was particularly interested in how we implemented sustainability across all facets of the school.

After a beautiful lunch and warm welcome by Rubin Borges, Jean-Marie Lakwijk took them on a tour in and around the school to highlight the sustainability features of ISH. One of my GLOBE groups showcased their work on measuring air quality around The Hague using a bicycle mounted sensor, and I showed them the workings of our GLOBE weather station. The afternoon was finalised with an interactive mini-workshop by Wieneke Maris, showcasing approaches of teaching for sustainability at ISH, highlighting the range of activities that are undertaken in the Global Issues Network (GIN).

The delegation went away happy and inspired, and I like to thank everybody involved.
